Her arms began to wave with excitement and her eyes grew wide with anticipation. The balloons floated around the ceiling and the chatter from family members filled the room. Everyone gathered to sing the most important song to celebrate this milestone...that song was Happy Birthday. As everyone began to sing, her mouth formed a sweet smile and she looked around with love and curiosity. Not only was this a birthday, but it was also her first birthday! When the cake appeared before her, she dove her face in without a second’s hesitation. She then grabbed for her new cup on the side of her highchair tray and discovered a delicious, and new, drink. That drink was milk!

As parents, milestones are important. In fact, they are momentous, especially when our kids are very young. One of the biggest milestones for any child takes place when they turn one. On this magical birthday, a child has the opportunity to make the transition to milk. Not only is milk tasty for those small tummies, but the right kind of milk can also provide much needed nutritional value that is ideal for growing kids.

Milk provides nutrition children need with 8 grams of protein and 9 essential nutrients per serving. It is also a reliable source of calcium and Vitamin D that children need for bone growth. Thankfully, Hood® Milk is committed to providing the highest quality and delicious, fresh-tasting milk for families. Hood® Milk is produced without artificial growth hormones* and all milk is tested for antibiotics.** Also, Hood® Milk has a 170-year-old commitment to making quality products. They definitely know their milk!

Excited to start the transition to milk, but not sure where to start? Hood® Milk makes it easy with these helpful tips!

  • A good time to transition your child to milk is at 12 months of age. Mark the date on your calendar and plan for your child’s first birthday as the time you can start this transition.
  • To get your child accustomed, to milk, Hood® has an easy way to help you make the transition. You can start by swapping out ¼ of the amount of formula with milk and eventually work your way up to 100%.
  • Children 12 to 24 months are recommended to have 16 to 24 ounces of whole milk daily because it provides the calories, fat, and cholesterol to grow their bodies and brains. Every parent can get excited about that!

It’s time to celebrate the transition to milk with Hood® Milk today!
