Aftermath Of Tornado That Hit Emerald Isle

Hurricane Dorian

By Lisa Hamilton October 15, 2019

This past September residents of Onslow, Carteret, & Craven County prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Dorian. This hurricane was an odd one with an unpredictable path as it headed towards the Crystal Coast making plenty of residents unsure if they should stay or evacuate. As the storm got closer it weakened down to a category 2 and dwindled down to a category 1 before leaving the area. Prior to Dorian's arrival to our area an EF2 Tornado touched down in Emerald Isle just after 9:00 am on September 5th, 2019 starting off as a waterspout in the ocean before hitting land. The tornado went right through Boardwalk RV Park damaging more than half of the mobile homes fortunately, nobody was injured!

I recently drove over to Emerald Isle to check out the tornado landing site and the progress of their recovery. I wanted to share some of the pictures I took while there.

On my way out I happened to look down and noticed a heart-shaped rock embedded in the road, it made my heart smile
