12 Kid's Summer Reading Programs

I love a good reading program! I feel like every time I turn around the age that kids have their own cell phones or tablets keeps getting younger and it's a little disturbing to me. I think it is because things were WAY different when I was growing up, I didn't have a pager till I was in High School or a cell phone till my early to mid-20's! Obviously, times are changing but that doesn't mean you should throw all your books away. Reading, reading comprehension and problem solving are very important to help your child grow so I put together a list of Summer Reading Programs in our area.

#BookYourSummer is what Barnes & Noble is using to help spread the word on Social Media, it could be useful to connect and/or get tips from other moms & dads that are doing this reading program with their kids.  Click HERE to check out the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program and set up your free account! If your child is 0-7 years old fill out this FORM, once your child reads any of the 8 books on the list and writes (or you write) their favorite part of each book they've read on the form they earn a FREE book! The coupon/voucher on the form is good in Barnes & Noble stores between August 1st and August 31st!

If you would like to print out the Storytime Passport for your little one click HERE, if you bring the Passport to Storytime with you your child will get a sticker to put on the Passport. You can bring it to every Storytime this Summer to help fill up that particular month!

They are also having an event HERE to celebrate the end of their Summer Reading Program. It will be taking place at the Camp Lejeune Base Theater on August 8th at 1:00 pm due to the Harriotte  B Library closing for renovations starting August 1st.

The library on Camp Lejeune has another benefit I wanted to share with you, it is the Free Storytime Kits that are available to check out. You can pick them up when they are available, the kit includes items to help you have a fun night with the kiddos! Click HERE to see the specifics on these kits and their contents!

Onslow County Public Library has been doing a fantastic Summer Reading Program for a few years now, each year it gets a little bit better by offering more! If you would like to find out more about how to join this reading program click HERE. The more your kids read or attend some of the special events your child will earn more points to have their name put in for the library's weekly drawing! Every week the library draws a winner for one of their prizes, the more minutes read and logged the more chances the kids have to win!

Onslow County Public Library has created a YouTube video tutorial to help walk you through the steps on how to set up the account for your family and log the minutes. You can watch the video HERE! 

Onslow County Public Library Has 4 Locations:

• DOGObooks: 10 participants that read and review the most books will be eligible for a Prize Pack! The Next 25 participants that read and review the most books are eligible for a $10 Gift Card!     
• Sylvan Learning Center: The Book Adventure, it has over 15,000 book quizzes with virtual rewards and the parent can set the child's reading level. This reading program is year-round.
• Half Price Books: This is a free & fun reading program with lots of free printables and rewards for your kiddos!
• Books-A-Million: When your child reads & logs the books in-store or online, read full program description for program specifics! 
• Six Flags Read to Succeed: This reading program is for children grades K through 6, once the child completes 6 hours of recreational reading they can earn a free admission ticket to Six Flags! 
• Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge: May 6th through September 6th log your child's minutes into their system to help children in need!
• TD Bank Summer Reading Program: If your child reads 10 books this Summer, fills out the form on the site they get $10 placed into their savings account!
• TLC Neighorood Bookworm Reading Program: This program encourages children 10 and under to read 10 books during the Summer, they can earn a free Kid's Meal at Applebee's (when accompanied by an adult) 
• Reading Rewards: Log your child's minutes using a free app, their reading minutes helps them earn points that they can turn in for all types of rewards!
