"trash for coffee"

I recently came across an article about a local Pet Supply Store with a coffee shop inside that started an awesome program to help keep our beaches clean! I hope that once you read this article you see how Muttigans is showing our community some serious love and you can help by just getting a free cup of coffee!
Muttigans is a locally owned and operated pet supply shop, coffee shop, baked goods, and a dog groomer at one of the 2 locations. There is one in Swansboro which has a dog groomers located in it and the other store is in Emerald Isle. Wendy the owner of Muttigans got the idea "trash for coffee" from a regular customer that came across an image of another coffee shop doing something similar on Pinterest about a year ago. Wendy and her husband moved to Emerald Isle back in 2015, shortly after that in 2016 they opened a pet supply store. They expanded quickly by adding the coffee shop in 2017 and was named one of America's Coolest Pet Stores in 2018!
They have a program called "trash for coffee"....catchy right? It means exactly what it says, you pick up a bucket from either of their locations, go to the beach, put any liter you find on the beach into the bucket, and once it is full you return the full bucket for a free cup of coffee!. I think this is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time! Both of their locations participate in this program so you can pick up or drop off at either one.
Anyone can participate, it is something great to do together as a family whether you live here on the Crystal Coast or are just here visiting. Your little ones will learn the importance of keeping our beaches clean and get a small reward for doing it. Being that I'm a teacher and a mother I learned real quick the importance of "hands-on learning" with children they absorb more of the lesson compared to just dictating what you want them to learn.

The first step it to go to one of Muttigans locations (location info at end of the article) ask for the special "trash for coffee" bucket. | Next step is to fill it with trash! | After you have filled the bucket with trash you collected from the beach bring it back to Muttigans | Last and final step, sit back and enjoy your free cup of coffee! |

Muttigans doesn't stop at the "trash for coffee" with awesome ideas to help bring together people in our community together! Every month Muttigans holds meetings (which are on hold right now due to it being the busy season) with members of the community and their dogs. Here are just a few names of the meetings they have "We're Having a Pittie Party", "Frenchy Friends Meet Up", "Doodle Day Meet Up", "Big Mutts Meet Up", and the list goes on! Once things slow down at the shop the meeting will start back up regularly so keep an eye out for that announcement on Muttigans Facebook page!
Muttigans motto is Paws and Enjoy Life™ and our mission statement is 'to provide a place to hang out with your friends whether they have fur or not.'
Muttigans Swansboro location offers grooming services that are priced very reasonably. You can take a look at their prices right HERE! I plan on taking my dog to get groomed next time he needs a cut, I will make sure I post a picture and let you know how it goes. I'm thinking my dog will look fabulous afterward if Muttigans has dogs coming out of their business looking like this... |  |
